What is Dengue Fever?

It is a viral infectious disease transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes, commonly found in tropical countries including Thailand.

It can occur in both children and adults and may become severe enough to cause death if not treated promptly.

Causes and Transmission

• Caused by: Dengue virus (DENV), with 4 strains: DENV-1, 2, 3, 4
• Transmitted by: Aedes aegypti mosquitoes – they bite an infected person and then transmit the virus to others
• Common in: Rainy season, when mosquitoes breed in standing water
